27 June is Pineapple Day. And because today has already happened and tomorrow is actually yesterday (or something like that), I’m posting today, 28 June. Here in Canberra, it’s currently 5 degrees Celsius so I’ve been pleased to work on such a sunny, bright quilt.
Fat Quarter Shop has recently released some fabulous Pineapple Quilt Block Foundation Papers. The 12½” papers are perfect to use with Jelly Rolls/2½” strips, and if you are careful you can cut the 2½” strips in half lengthways and use them.
These papers are a great way for beginners to get started with Foundation Piecing. One thing I found was that some of the pieces in the 12½” papers were quite a lot bigger than I’m used to (my last FP project was Alison Glass’s Trinket!) and I found that one thing that helped was to put a little bit of Sewline glue on before I pressed the pieces.

There were still a couple of woops moments – here’s one. Don’t you hate it when the fabric doesn’t go where it is supposed to?

Pineapple blocks always remind me of formal gardens, so this is the theme I went for in my quilt. I have a lot of lovely floral fat quarters which I’ve never quite known what to do with and this project was prefect, teamed with a set of spotty 2½” strips I’ve also had waiting for the perfect project.
Finally, I couldn’t finish this project without showing you a picture of the top draped over my NEW QUILTING FRAME!! My trusty Janome 6600P now lives on my fabulous Can-Quilt Frame and I am soooo excited.

Check out the Jolly Jabber for all the info on these new papers , and if you’re on Instagram, have a look at the #PineappleDayQuilt hashtag to see all the great quilts my fellow FQS Bloggers have created.
What fabric will you use for your Pineapple Day Quilt?
